The most common gynecological neoplasm is uterine leiomyomas, these are benign hormone-dependent tumors that are generated from the smooth muscle of the myometrium. They have a high incidence in women of reproductive age between the fourth and fifth decades of life and usually decrease with menopause. They are generally asymptomatic, but can often be accompanied by dysmenorrhea, metrorrhagia, or infertility. The initial study for its characterization is transvaginal ultrasound, however, magnetic resonance imaging has a high diagnostic value since it allows a more specific evaluation of the type, location and number of leiomyomas, as well as allowing the identification of the type of degeneration and differentiation. between leiomyomas and their mimic lesions. The main objective of this manuscript is to address the main characteristics in magnetic resonance between the different types of leiomyomatous degeneration, this being a cause of possible acute abdominal and pelvic pain.
